Mos Burger

I went on a special mission to try (read:taste) and review mos burger which just opened at plaza senayan. Arrived there at 11 turns out they were not opened to the public till 1. So I left and came back at 15 to 1. Got in line. In front of me were about 10 people were in a not so orderly yet manageable line. Finally 1 o'clock came and the gate was opened. Some had order slips in hand with their order, but i just went in since the person who opened the "gate" told me to go in. There are only 2 registers in the restaurant so lines can get pretty long. i don't know if they did this on purpose or because they prefered to use the available space for seating, in which they had plenty of. So I ordered. Our Ring Leader Mel told me she always ordered the salad, so that was a must try on my list, also the butterfly shrimp. Fortunately there were set menus (french fries set as they are called here) which consists of a burger, fries and drink. There were 4 types with 3 variaties for each type. Confused?  Let me clarify. There were set menus A, B, C, D. each of these were the same except for the burger which were of different price. And for each of these alphabet set menus you can add either salad, mos chicken or the butterfly shrimp.

Set menu A: Rp. 30.000

Fish burger

Set menu B: Rp. 36.000

Teriyaki Burger

Set menu C: Rp.38.000

Mos Cheese burger

Set menu D: Rp. 40.000

Beef Yakiniku rice burger

Each french fries set includes burger, fries and soft drink (coke, zero, fanta or ice tea)

So I ordered:

Set menu B for my mom with the butterfly shrimp price Rp. 43.000. And C for me with the salad price: Rp.40.000.

But that's not all. I also had to order the beef teriyaki burger Rp. 25.000 and Clam chowder Rp. 14.000 (not really sure) will have to check the flier menu they were giving out. (I left it at home). Also Ordered the green tea large Rp.12.000.

It didn't take 5 minutes and our order came. First I tried the salad, while my mom had the chowder. Both were delicious. i liked the salad dressing, it had this tangy taste that was nice. The veggies were nothing extraordinary but fresh. The chowder was delicious, creamy yet not too thick. My only gripe, it wasn't as warm as I would have liked, and the clams were almost unnoticeable, like they weren't even there :P. But for the price I paid i guess I expected that. While we were eating our appetizers we ate the butterfly shrimp. Nothing spectacular, just batter fried shrimp, but it was good. The batter was good, the shrimp was fresh (no smells or fishiness), and it was crunchy outside but soft in the inside. Not like some fried battered shrimp which are hard all the way through. I like it, I definitely will oredr those every time I visit Mos. Next the burgers, My mom's teriyaki burger was Yummyyyy!!! Chicken thigh cooked just right. Nice soft bun with only mayo and lettuce. Simple, Sweet but um um good. Then I tried my yakiniku beef burger. I was skeptical, I had a rice burger before and it didn't go very well. But I must say I was Happy with this one. My first worry was the rice "bun" would fall apart, but it didn't. It stuck together till the very alst bite.  The second concern was the beef would be tough to bite off, hence causing the beef to all come out at first bite, but it didn't in fact the beef was soft enough to be bitten off with every bite. And as for taste, the beef was delicious, the rice bun was too. They use real japanese rice. In fact the bun was so good that when i ran out of beef, i just ate the rice bun as is, dipped it in some chilli sauce and aummm  . Finally it's time for the mos cheese burger. I was wondering what that sauce was all aboout when I saw the picture of the burger. Turns out it's some kind of sloppy joe with more onion then beef. i must say, this was just a so so burger for me. I prefer the whopper. Or the burgers at hotshots. It just tasted ok, nothing special, i could barely taste the meat patty. And for me the most important part of a burger is the meat patty. So, let's leave the beef burgers to the king and go for the unique japanese burgers when visiting MOS. You might notice that I didn't say anything about the fries. Well that's because we barely ate any of it. We didn't like em. It was a bit bland and it just didn't have that cruch that you get from the McD's or BK's fries. So, I'm thinking, better not order the set menu next time. Well that's all I have to report from my visit to Mos Burger. You should definitely try it. But as I said before stick to the japanese stuff, after all they are a japanese franchise.
